Testing the RM Framework – What the Pilots Taught Us

In episode #10 of the RM Framework Series, I’m joined again by Marcos Gomes from the University of Coimbra, who coordinates the project’s pilot-testing activities. The pilots were designed to move the RM Framework from theory into real training environments by asking very different organisations—from universities to professional networks and a regional funding agency—to test the draft handbook, work with RM Comp and provide feedback on elements of the proposed quality label. Marcos explains what emerged from that stress test: broad recognition that the framework can provide a useful structure for research management training, but also a clear demand for more practical examples, templates and guidance. Perhaps the most important finding is that a European framework should not create identical training programmes. Its value lies in providing common reference points while remaining flexible enough to work across very different educational systems, institutional settings and national realities.
